A Leading UK Fintech Hub
Named as one of the top 20 fastest growing global fintech hubs to watch. A Financial Centre of Excellence, Leeds is home to a substantial cluster of banking – with 30 national and international banks, 415 accountancy firms including the Big Four, and a growing insurance sector. Leeds is a leading UK fintech and insuretech hub, and is home to the UK’s first fintech accelerator outside of London. A hub of expertise, 63% of jobs in the financial services sector in Leeds are high skilled, and the city exports £2 billion in financial services.
Legal Sector
The Leeds City Region is home to over 1,500 legal companies, including 28 of the UK’s top 100 law firms. It’s a sector that employs in excess of 14,400 people, generating almost £1 billion per year.
One in every four people working in the legal sector in the North are based in Leeds – in part, because the region offers a standard of support and advice keeping pace with London, thanks to the high concentration of quality legal advisors and related infrastructure.
The nine universities in the Leeds City Region have 103,900 students and produces 39,000 graduates per year, of which 3,700 are law graduates. One of the largest providers of legal education in the UK, University of Law, has chosen Leeds for its only innovation and tech hub outside London.
