Named the best shopping destination in the UK by the rough guide to Britain, Leeds City Centre has over 1,000 shops, and over 300 bars and restaurants.
As a national destination, this area helps to fuel our visitor economy: helping to drive demand from retail and leisure occupiers as well as a growing demands for further hotel and residential developments across the city centre. Leeds is established as one of the leading retail destinations in the country. With shops and leisure activities housed in beautiful arcades and listed buildings, and a centre that can be covered on foot in a few hours, Leeds offers a shopping experience like no other UK city.
Through Our Spaces Strategy, this area will see major investment in the public realm, building upon the long standing success of Briggate. Further investment will see improved pedestrian and transport links to surrounding areas of the city centre, whilst the area is excellently located nearby to Leeds Station, subject to major investment plans as part of collaboration between the Council, West Yorkshire Combined Authority, Transport for the North, Network Rail and Department for Transport. Our plans for a yearlong celebration of culture as part of a six year programme of activity will also drive footfall in this area.
This vibrant area has a diverse range of investment opportunities for both investors, developers and occupiers alike. Major redevelopment is progressing around Kirkgate Market and ambitious plans are progressing around Leeds Corn Exchange. There is a growing demand for new hotel developments on the back of the strength of our visitor economy.
