About Leeds

We are the heart of the Northern Powerhouse.

We are so lucky to be positioned at the centre of one of the strongest and most resilient economies in Europe and within one of the most beautiful regions in the world. There is strength all around us. The cities and towns of Yorkshire provide a diversity of skills, landscapes and experiences that add to our own. The great cities and infrastructure of the North enable a shared talent pool and international connectivity that benefits us all. Individually we are strong, together we are a force.

Our vision is for a strong economy and compassionate city. Leeds is built on a heritage as a financial centre, a leading manufacturing base and a healthcare innovator. This has fuelled a growth of 40% in the last decade alone. Our city is young and getting younger building even more enterprising, innovative and digitally aware generations creating our future economies in data analytics, healthtech, advanced manufacturing and fintech. With four universities in the city, we benefit from 'brain grain', with more graduates staying in the city than those who leave.

Leeds will create a £35 million six year cultural programme culminating in a year of celebration in 2023. It embraces diversity and puts children and young people at its heart. Our future has only just begun. Developments like HS2 and Northern Powerhouse Rail (NPR) will act as catalysts for the next stage of the journey. Through collaboration, we are delivering a £1.5bn package of infrastructure investments in our city centre, including new public realm, the transformation of the busiest transport hub in the North of England, green links and new public transport provisions. International organisations such as Channel 4 and Burberry are investing in the city, and with major developments now on site, there is major momentum to Leeds' growth.

Leeds is a great place to live and visit today and it’s going to be an incredible place to be tomorrow. We want you to be part of that future.
